IHC Pedestrian Bridge
Provo, UT

IHCWe were the prime consultant for the design of the Intermountain Health Care pedestrian overpass for the IHC facilities locate in Provo, Utah.  The project entailed the design and construction management for an enclosed 128 foot pedestrian bridge to clear the street span.  The bridge is to be used as the primary means of crossing a busy road for hospital employees, patients and visitors.  Because the bridge is to be used by patients, the hospital requested for the overpass to be enclosed and have easy access.  A design utilizing both stairs and elevators were used.

The project consisted of the design and construction of a new 128 foot pedestrian bridge.  The pedestrian bridge is supported by towers that have wrap around stairs and a center elevator.  Included in the scope of services for the project were civil, utilities and design of structures including deck, girders, steel framing, stair cover, design and detailing of concrete wall-abutments, stairs and mat foundation.  Other responsibilities included calculations, construction administration, specifications, cost estimate and coordination of sub-consultants.  We were also responsible to conduct the strategy meetings and coordinate between the owner and the sub-consultants.  With such a high profile project over a state route, coordination efforts included the City of Provo and the Utah Department of Transportation.  The project was completed under budget and ahead of schedule, but due to IHC budget, the pedestrian bridge was never built.
