Energy Solutions Arena

The home of the Utah Jazz NBA Basketball team, this 20,000 seat arena was designed and constructed within a one year schedule that had to be met.  It features post tensioned steel roof trusses, which span 420 feet, and support the roof, mechanical systems, lighting and sound systems, scoreboard, and catwalks over the arena.  The entire structure, except for the roof, is constructed of reinforced cast-in-place, and precast concrete.  As well as the arena, it houses team offices, restaurants, shops, conference rooms, and spacious public areas.   The structure extends two stories below grade, and five stories above grade.  The roof was set in place by building the main roof trusses on one end of the building, and then pulling the roof structure progressively across the arena, as beams and roof framing placed between the girders were set into place.  The post tensioned steel trusses have never been used in the United States before.
