Terra Nova
San Francisco, CA
Terra Nova is an aggregate storage facility for large ships to unload material via conveyors between towers, a shorage building and a truck loading building, located in the San Francisco Bay Area. The project is a 640 ft. x 80 ft. x 75 ft. height steel Butler building.
All the aggregate is to be stored on floor and R2H designed a 540 ft. long truss elevated 30 ft that will be used to distribute the aggregate with a moving machine on top of it, weighing 50 kips. This truss spans 80 ft. between bents. The truss was designed in 40 ft. sections that bolt together in field for transportation and erection purposes. Each truss section ended up being 8 ft. x 8 ft. in cross section and 40 ft. long, made of T shape top and bottom chords and double angles for the diagonals with additional walk ways to be bolted on each side. R2H also designed four other steel framed tower structures.
R2H provided full structural design including preliminary layout, materials selection, structural drawings and specifications. R2H is also providing construction administration services including reviewing RFI’s, submittals and bid assistance.
