Oceanside

As a sub-consultant, R2H assisted in the project management and was responsible for the complete architectural and structural design services for a 500 car, 3 level parking structure.   The parking garage is for the use of the City of Oceanside employee parking, and for the train station patronage.

The parking structure is a concrete structure consisting of pre-cast columns and beams with cast-in-place, post-tensioned slab and a cast-in-place concrete mat foundation. R2H participated in the garage layout and configuration, to enable the column spacing to coordinate with vehicular layout and parking scheme.

Several design options were provided because of the potential of contaminated soils and the problems associated with the surrounding area. Based upon the soils and the intent not to disturb the in-situ soils conditions and because of the immediate need, a mat foundation was determined to be the best option, winning consideration over placing the garage on piles, or removing up to fifteen feet of soil and backfilling with clean fill, or attempting to determine the status of the soil and making an effort to remedy the situation.

Construction administration services are to include bid opening assistance, scheduling, site observation and response to RFI’s. Special consideration and site visits will take place during the laying of the foundation to ensure that all soils issues are resolved or avoided prior to developing problems.
