Household Financial Building and Parking Garage
San Diego, CA

HouseholdHousehold Finance, a sizeable international finance firm, needed a larger facility within the City of San Diego to house its expanding company.  In conjunction with Chesnut Properties, the two firms developed a business park to service the Clairemont area. Within the business park is a three story office building which would house Household’s offices.

The three story 120,000 sq. ft. office building includes a 2-story entry with full three story curved glass entry atrium.  All three floors designed as computer access floors with full below floor cable space.  Construction materials included concrete walls.  Structural steel/concrete composite floor framing, structural steel roof framing and structural steel glass curtain wall support syParkingstem.

The parking garage is to serve the office and commercial buildings within the park and the other surrounding businesses to help ease the parking overload.  The garage is 120,000 sq. ft. with three stories and is constructed with pre-cast, pre-stress double T concrete joists. Pre-stress girders and cast-in-place concrete shear walls.

R2H provided full structural designs of the primary framing systems of the structure.  These designs include preliminary layouts, material selections, foundation and superstructure designs, appurtenant structure designs, coordination with architectural, civil, mechanical and electrical, full structural drawings, preparation of specifications, bidding assistance and construction administration services.

R2H became involved with the project during schematic design phase, establishing the structural design criteria, including any special criteria needed by the client, participated in the selection of the Structural Systems and provided the structural criteria to the Geotechnical Consultant.  Throughout the design process, R2H provided the structural design for the primary structural system and was involved with the elements designed by the specialty engineers. During the construction, R2H reviewed the submittals, responded to requests for information from the contractors in the field and reviewed reports from the testing and inspection agencies. Also, when requested, R2H visited the site during different stages of construction to ensure the progress of the construction work relative to primary structural system.
