Ashworth
Oceanside, CA

Ashworth, Inc. is a San Diego based company with a rapidly increasing business therefore, they needed a larger facility. R2H was involved in designing their commercial building that would encompass their embroidery department and their simulated golf center.
The building is an industrial/commercial building totaling 207,315 sq. ft. with 38’ high concrete tilt-up walls at the perimeter, partial 2nd story of 41,000 sq. ft. also rectangular in plan. Roof & floor system are hybrid with plywood sheath and conventional spread footing foundation.
R2H provided full the structural design of the primary framing system of the structure. The design includes preliminary layouts, material selections, foundation and superstructure designs, appurtenant structure designs, coordination with architectural, civil, mechanical and electrical, full structural drawings, preparation of specifications, bidding assistance and construction administration services
R2H also provided structural design for some of the tenant improvements. The first was the addition of a ceiling support beam and column. This required calculations for the tube beam and column to support a drywall ceiling and detailing of beam connections to columns at each end and bracing details for the new column.
R2H also performed an evaluation of the roof framing for additional loads from manufacturing improvements. The loadings were a compilation of all additional dead loads that were supported by the roof structural above and below. R2H provided the load criteria to be transmitted to the contractor and roof truss manufacturer for the retrofit of the roof trusses and girders.
After the roof evaluation, R2H performed a load evaluation on the mezzanine and the slab-on grade. Upon completion of the evaluation, R2H provided the design of the footings at the first floor. R2H prepared structural plans, details and calculations to provide new footings at the Gartner equipment columns with high uplift forces due to seismic loading conditions. Secondly, R2H designed the base plates and deck connection details at the mezzanine. R2H prepared structural details and calculations to provide load distributing base plates and deck connection details at Gartner column locations in the mezzanine due to gravity and seismic loading conditions.
